JR東海の『ドクターイエロー』引退、残るはあと1編成のみ

There is now just one more of the iconic "Doctor Yellow" bullet trains riding around Japan, after the only other train made its final trip this January.

These yellow Shinkansen trains have been used to inspect tracks around the country. But the train owned by Central Japan Railway — also called JR Tokai — has now been retired.

It arrived in Tokyo at the end of January after finishing its last inspection of the Tokaido Shinkansen line.

This one was first used in 2001 and it has traveled more than 1.5 million kilometers over the years.

The other yellow train, owned by JR West, is likely to stop operating in 2027. The first yellow trains began inspecting the Tokaido Shinkansen line in 1964 when it opened.

The trains have gotten old, and the newer passenger trains are able to inspect the tracks as they travel.

Online, train lovers have been sharing their thoughts about the end of the Doctor Yellow trains.

One Reddit user said it was "sad to see," while another said they "felt so lucky to see it" on a trip last year.

"Farewell good doctor," they added.

Many people like to take photos of the yellow trains and share them online. One user said they had never expected to see the train for themselves but finally got a photo and a video in January this year.

Part of the JR Tokai train will be shown at Railway Park in Nagoya, according to The Yomiuri Shimbun.

読売新聞によると、JR東海の車両の一部が名古屋市の鉄道館で展示されるという。
