Many Americans Won't Travel Without Their Pets

多くの米国人はペットなしでは旅行したくない

Choosing where to go, how to get there and how long to stay are all normal parts of planning a trip. But for many pet owners, there's another important question: Can my pet come, too?

A new survey of 2,000 US dog and cat owners shows that pets are having a big influence on the way their owners travel — and, for some, whether they travel at all!

The survey, done by Talker Research in July 2026, found that 45% of pet owners had said no to a trip because they couldn't bring their pet with them.

And when they do leave their animals at home, they usually don't want to stay away too long. Thirty-one percent said they limit trips without their pets to just a day or two. Another 37% said they can manage a few days, but start to feel uneasy after that.

Nearly half said they feel bad when they travel without their pet, and the same percentage said they worry about their furry friends while they're away.

That's probably why many are willing to change how they travel so their pets can come along. Seven in ten said they were more likely to take a road trip instead of flying if it meant they could bring their pet. And almost half said they wouldn't mind driving more than four hours for the same reason.

And for many, all that extra effort may just be worth it, with around half saying that traveling with a pet is better than traveling with another person!

米国の犬や猫の飼い主2,000人を対象とした新しい調査は、ペットが飼い主の旅行の仕方に大きな影響を与えており、中には旅行するかどうかさえ左右していることを示している。

トーカーリサーチが2026年7月に実施したこの調査では、ペットの飼い主の45%が、ペットを一緒に連れて行けなかったため、旅行を見送ったことがあると回答した。

また、ペットを家に残して出かける場合でも、通常はあまり長く家を空けたくないと考えている。 31%は、ペットを連れて行かない旅行は1～2日にとどめていると答えた。 さらに37%は、数日なら大丈夫だが、それ以上になると不安を感じ始めると答えた。

半数近くが、ペットを連れずに旅行するときに後ろめたく感じると答え、同じ割合の人が、留守中にペットのことを心配すると回答した。

おそらくそのため、多くの人が、ペットも一緒に行けるように旅行の仕方を変えることをいとわないのだろう。 10人中7人が、ペットを連れて行けるなら、飛行機ではなく車での旅行をする可能性が高いと答えた。 また、半数近くが、同じ理由で4時間以上運転しても構わないと回答した。

そして多くの人にとって、そうした余分な手間をかける価値はあるようで、約半数が、他の人と旅行するよりもペットと旅行する方が良いと答えている。
